On Darkness
[Notes on the Collection of Works by Various Artists]
One / These paintings are perishing.
Two / What is the essence of this form of artistic creation that leaves the artist uncertain whether its fate teeters on the brink of destruction or revival? Is it the hope of reconstruction or the persistence of destruction and (un)awareness? This essence is a threshold quality that positions artists at the brink of an action whose creation is both inevitable and urgent. A space that demands its enigmatic nature be made visible to transition through the darkness and seize it. The hope of the ascent of light and awareness amidst its endless darkness and silence. Destruction and construction, construction and destruction, and reconstruction once again. A process where beauty seeks its culmination, achievable through understanding the interplay between the reconstruction and revival of dark colors and the creation of an arrangement of light colors.
Three / The artists themselves lack complete clarity about this narrative. They are the astonished and conscious observers. Until the wind blows, such a wind!
Four / The discovery of the thread connecting these works intensifies their unresolved conflict and complexity. Yet, this liminal world promises the possibility of returning to the inception of creation and illumination.
Five / Each artist in this exhibition, with a unique approach, endeavors to discern the order of these relationships within the dark space. A space intended to organize inherent and unconventional beauty amidst deliberate chaos. These five artists are united in seeking beauty amid destruction and darkness.
One searches for order in the total darkness of a simple and dark space, without adding any extraneous elements (Mohammad Rajabi Harran). He is exploring this (un)subject.
Another creates a rhythm through scattered heads and their connections (Maedeh Amiri/Sughand Nabi); the first with hysterical comedy, and the second with the astonished face of the painter himself.
Another presents colorful and bright figures piled together in a dark and mysterious space (Kiana Salamat).
Finally, soft and cloth-like volumes of the skull explore this unique subject, connected with death and its mysterious and dark world, across cultural and artistic ages (Razieh Sabouri).
The works in this exhibition are presented with high intensity, carrying a certain and impactful (non)expression.
Six / We understand the meaning of darkness, Although, Naturally, we seek “light” within “darkness.”
